Windows Explorer makes it easy to navigate through your folders and work with your files but it lacks one simple functionality, probably because it’s rarely needed: creating an organized catalog/listing of your files and folders.

Although few people encounter this need, when they do, they may have a difficult time finding a solution. In the MS-DOS days, a simple “dir > list.txt” would have done the trick. This still works in the virtual DOS environment created by Windows (when you launch cmd.exe), but it has some disadvantages: it’s too complicated for amateur users and the output list cannot be fully customized. DirPrint comes with a simple and efficient solution. It makes it easy to generate a clearly organized file list, folder list or a tree list (hierarchically organizes folders and contents in output text).

Although this program is very simple and the interface is composed of very small windows/dialogs, it makes it possible to customize every little detail of the output text. Here are a few examples: you can create detailed filters (by file type, size, file name, date, attributes), you can order the files by name, extension, size or other criteria, the output list can be formatted in many styles, you can select what columns you want to include in your list and so on.

DirPrint is an effective way of creating neatly organized file/folder lists.
